Hello Book Club 502, I have to admit that I have read this book before, so I shouldn't really try to answer this question...but it has been a long time so I remember very little of it. So here is my prediction--Judging from the cover and the title, I would guess this is going to be about an African American family in the South. I just happen to know from my background knowledge, that Birmingham was a "hot spot" for civil rights riots in the 1950's and 60's. So I am thinking this will involve this family's encounters with the civil rights movement in the South.
Carefully look over the cover, just like when Mrs. Witter had you pay close attention to the details in the pictures from her last lesson. Base your answer on both the title and cover.
From what I can tell about the cover of "the Watsond going to birmingham" is that it took place in 1963. Also, I think that this book will heavly explain the conditions of african american life during that time due to the fact that most of Birmingham's white population were not to happy about the idea of african americans liveing there. Also, i have seen many movies that showed the Birmingham was were a lot of violance and prejdice actions acured.
I think that the book The Watsons Go to Birmingham is going to be about an African American family who will struggle with human rights during the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama taking place in 1950's and 1960's. From background information, I know that African Americans were not given their rights during this time. There is a sign on the cover that has a cotton field and a title that says, "non-violent social changes." I am looking forward to reading this book.
I think this story is going to be about a family going to Birmingham. The reason they are doing this is because they have been suffering from depression. This story is set in the 1960's. The family will likely encounter many challenges. They will also wind up in danger. Some of the things that happen in the story are based on actual events.

Hello Book Club 502! I don't know if you were as impressed as I was, Mrs. Seils, about the way everyone used either background knowledge or clues from the cover of the book to form really intelligent-sounding predictions! I think you will all be surprised at how close your predictions are. Jordan--it was sooooo good to hear from you. I was sad to hear that you were leaving, but I think this blog will really help all of us keep in touch. I am anxious to hear about your new school. Hopefully you can get a copy of the book The Watsons Go to Birmingham so you can read along with us!
It's Josh, I wish I could come down to Tennessee to see you. I think that it is awesome that you get to start school later than we do. I hope you having fun in Tennessee. I get to go out west to Las Vegas and Arizona this Tuesday. So I will be out of NY also. I hope you can get a chance to visit us soon.

I think this book is going to be about an African-American family that suffers from discrimination, Jim Crow laws, and segregation.
